Former Marines Pose For Breast Cancer Calendar}

Former Camp LeJeune Marines Pose for Breast Cancer Calenda

13 former Marines with ties to Camp LeJeune posed for a calendar highlighting their personal struggles with breast cancer. The calendar is designed to raise awareness of mens breast cancer and to highlight the diseases environmental causes.

Men, Breast Cancer, the Environment: A Photographic Journey, was organized by Ellie Anbinder, head of the Framingham, Mass.-based breast cancer foundation Art beCause. Anbinder and Peter Devereaux of North Andover, Massachusetts, and former Camp LeJeune Marine discussed the creation of a calendar dedicated exclusively to the cluster of men who believe their breast cancer was caused by exposure to the chemical solvents and suspected carcinogens that once comtaminated the Camp Lejeune drinking water supply.

When youre a guy and you get diagnosed with breast cancer, you feel like youre the only one. Its not like you have a network to support you, Devereaux said. Its really been a quest to try to make sense of this crazy disease, to help other guys come out of their isolation, so to speak, and let them know that theres help out there.

Breast cancer in men is a serious health concern and taking a loving look at these men and their artistic efforts to tell their story, is a beautiful, bold statement. The new Breastcentric comedy show, The D-Cup Diatribes attempts to highlight with positivity and lightheartedness the growing number of men suffering from breast cancer. The number of women by far surpasses that of the male sufferers and survivors but bringing a sense of art, self-expression and compassion is at the core of this new show.

The broader statement is You Are Not Alone. The audiences attending The D-Cup Diatribes is full of breast cancer survivors, their family and friends. The playwright, Melody Swink, has garnered Raves from these women and the Breastimonials can be found at thedcupdiatribes.com

Like Miss Swink, Ellie Anbinder called a project linking the work of her foundation and the stories of these men a match made in heaven. I had never known a man who had breast cancer. Statistically, men dont get breast cancer. There are usually a thousand cases diagnosed a year, she said.

Swink is very proud to present her characters in a way that touches, enlightens and rejuvenates the spirit. Two of her characters are either facing or are recovering from mastectomies, and though the topic is not funny. Human nature and personal perspective is, however. The D-Cup Diatribes begins its Breast Cancer Awareness Month Tour on October 8th in New York with stops in Massachusetts, CT, NH and beyond Join The D-Cups in supporting The American Cancer Society and nestle in the warmth of the human stories told with wit and playfulness, and emerge with lifted spirits and hope.

For former Marine, Devereaux, the release of the calendar comes on the heels of a significant personal victory: Only weeks ago, he became one of the few veterans affected by Lejeune water contamination to receive 100-percent disability from the department of Veterans Affairs because of his exposure to the contaminated water. Heroic effort. A real D-Cups Dude.

An interview with gossip columnist Michael Musto on the art of celebrity journalism

Sunday, October 7, 2007

There are two things one can expect on a trip to see Michael Musto at the offices of the Village Voice: a 20-minute round-trip wait for the elevator and rapid fire answers from one of the most recognizable gossip columnists in the United States. Musto, in addition to his appearances on Countdown with Keith Olbermann and the E! network, has been writing his column for the Voice since 1984. He has recently compiled the best of them in a book released this year titled, La Dolce Musto: Writings by the World’s Most Outrageous Columnist. He was Carrie Bradshaw, replete with a prodigious use of puns, before Sex in the City was a thought. His column is a romp through his life, spats and opinions on socio-political issues. As David Thigpen of the Chicago Tribune wrote, Musto is “a funny and caustic satirist who masquerades as a gossip and nightlife columnist.”

Musto, a Columbia University graduate, is a rarity in today’s celebrity world: he is accessible. He often corresponds with his readers and his public functions are a mix of parties, nightclubs, academic lectures, university panels and film premieres.

He is friendly and frank, and he welcomes people to join him in his world (“I just got a message that Michael Lucas died!” he says staring wide-eyed at his phone; the message turned out to be false). Wikinews reporter David Shankbone spoke with Musto about his life and his relationship to the world of celebrity journalism. And he did not hold back.

Ease The Pain Without Addiction At The Back &Amp; Neck Care Center

byAlma Abell

Back and neck injuries happen quite often. A fall or car accident can cause serious issues that can lead to long-lasting pain in the back and neck. Even poor posture can lead to serious issues in these areas. Far too often, these injuries are to soft tissue areas that are difficult to diagnose and even more difficult to correct by a primary doctor. The pain from these issues can last a lifetime and cause serious limitations to one’s daily activities. These limitations can severely decrease a person’s quality of life and, sometimes, limit their ability to work. This can also lead to other issues, such as depression. Many common treatments can pose further complications and limitations. However, treatment at the Back & Neck Care Center can be another option.

Very often, treatments for back and neck pain consist of pain medications. These medications come with a plethora of side-effects, such as drowsiness, that can compromise a person’s ability to perform daily activities. Although the pain may be relieved, a person may still be unable to get out and enjoy their life. In addition, the body adjusts to pain medication over time. This can often require the person to take more pain medication to treat the same pain. Long-term use of pain medications can also lead to addiction. This can be a difficult problem for anyone to handle. The Back & Neck Care Center provides alternative treatments for pain that can lessen or eliminate one’s dependency on pain medications.

Chiropractic treatment can be very beneficial in treating back and neck pain. Often, this pain is caused by misaligned bones, muscles, tendons, and nerves. Manipulation of these areas can help realign the area to promote healing. The stimulation also promotes circulation and helps with healing as well. In addition to manipulation, a patient is also instructed in how to perform range-of-motion exercises, depending on their injury and pain, to improve proper use and promote healing. For many patients, dependency on pain medication can be reduced or eliminated. It can also allow a person to return to a pain-free life. For more information, you can Click Here.

“No H5N1 virus” found in blood tests of suspected human Bird Flu cluster

Thursday, August 3, 2006

Preliminary tests performed on samples taken from six villagers in the Kabanjahe District of Sumatra in Indonesia have tested negative for the deadly H5N1 Avian Flu virus.

“Investigations by the ministry of health lab and Namru, too, on August 2 and 3 on all specimens collected from the suspected cases in Kabanjahe district came up negative,” said Indonesia’s health minister, Siti Fadilah Supari.

Final test results are expected in at least seven days from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia. “The World Health Organization (WHO) requires human samples to be sent to one of WHO’s six collaborative centres. So, we only need to send them to CDC Atlanta as it has worked with the U.S. NAMRU-2 lab here,” added Supari.

Supari also stated that all individuals are suffering from the “common flu.”

How To Build A House To Be Proud Of

By Gerald Mason

Do not be in too big a hurry to begin the finish work.

Wait until the plaster is thoroughly dry; two or three weeks should elapse from the time the plaster is completed before the finish lumber, flooring, doors, and cabinets are even brought into the house. Otherwise, the moisture from the plastering will swell the wood and damage the surface of the finish lumber. An extra few days’ waiting will result in a much better job of finishing.

An accurate account of the cost of a building should be kept as the work progresses. This is not too difficult if one is careful to keep all bills, vouchers, receipts, check stubs, and all other papers involved in buying the materials, getting the permits, and paying the labor. It is also a good idea to keep an account of the hours you spend in the building work.

Keep a separate account of the time spent in actual labor on the job really building and the work spent in buying, negotiating with contractors, subcontractors, and building officials. It makes an interesting record if a note is made of the exact kind of work done each day, to see how the various kinds of work

consume time. A very young man may wish to hire help for the more skilled types of work and do the more strenuous physical work himself, while a man in his fifties or sixties might prefer to hire the heavy work done and do the skilled and more puttering kinds of work himself.

This will vary with the individual, and the type of help he can get. A person should usually plan on hiring some help in building a house, as it is rare to find a person who can do skillfully all kinds of work necessary to do in a building.

If you would rather build a house than buy one, there are several ways to go about it. You can get an architect to plan the house and get a contractor to build it; this should result in just the “perfect” house for you, but can be expensive unless you are more than careful.

Hire the plans drawn and be your own contractor, letting the work out to sub-contractors, as concrete men, carpenters, electricians, plasterers, etc. Do this only if you have had considerable business experience and have plenty of time to devote to it, as the supervision of these workmen is what you pay the general contractor to do.

You might get plans out of a magazine and proceed as suggested above; or get some experienced person to help you with the plans and build part of the house yourself, hiring professional help only where necessary.

Of you could buy a lot, draw your own plans, and do the whole job yourself, with the help of your family, hiring specialized skills only where absolutely necessary. This is the most work, but can’ also be the most fun and the least expensive. Much depends on your experience, your skill, and the time you can afford to devote to the work.

If you decide to hire a general contractor to build for you, select him with care. There are several criteria by which to judge a contractor’s ability and competence.

Ask to see several houses that he has built; let him show you the houses, which he should be proud to do, and look them over carefully.

If you do decide to purchase a house always use a mortgage calculator to help you get the best mortgage.

Jermaine Pennant jailed for drink-driving

Tuesday, March 1, 2005

Aylesbury, England — The Arsenal F.C. midfielder Jermaine Pennant, currently on loan to Birmingham City, has today pleaded guilty to drink-driving, driving while disqualified, and driving without insurance by Aylesbury magistrates court. Pennant received a sentence of three months imprisonment. Pennant’s lawyer, Bary Warbutton, has said that the footballer will appeal against the severity of the sentence.

The incident occurred on January 23 of this year, Pennant was arrested after crashing teammate Ashley Cole’s car into a lamppost. The 22-year-old claimed that he crashed the car after attempting to operate the car’s Satellite navigation system.

Despite the claim by Warbutton that imprisonment “could completely destroy his career”, Birmingham City have said that they will stand by the player, and help to rehabilitate him. Arsenal released a statement saying that the sentence would not impact the player’s future with the club; his contract with club expires in the summer, at the same time as his loan-spell with Birmingham ends.

MV Rachel Corrie seized by Israeli Naval Forces

Saturday, June 5, 2010

The 1,200-ton MV Rachel Corrie, an Irish aid ship, was seized by the Israeli Naval Forces, as it attempted to challenge the blockade of Gaza. It was seized in international waters, about 20 miles (30 kilometers) from Gaza’s shore.

The military said its forces boarded ship from the sea, not helicopters and didn’t meet any resistance. The Palestine Solidarity Campaign said: “No contact has yet been made with the kidnapped passengers but we have learned that they have been taken to Holon detention centre where they could be deported as early as tonight.”

Passengers include Irishman Dennis Halliday, a former assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Northern Irish Nobel Peace Prize laureate Mairead Corrigan Maguire, and a group of Irish and Malaysian pro-Palestinian activists.

The ship, named in honor of American peace activist Rachel Corrie, contains support including: toys, school supplies, wheelchairs, medical equipment and cement, a material that Israel has restricted from entry into Gaza. The crew had rejected an offer to unload its cargo in Israel and accompany it across the border.

The Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign initially organised the ship. Jenny Graham, a Free Gaza Movement (FGM) activist, assured that everything aboard the ship had been inspected in Ireland. A FGM activist Greta Berlin, based in Cyprus, said: “We are an initiative to break Israel’s blockade of 1.5 million people in Gaza. Our mission has not changed and this is not going to be the last flotilla.”

This comes after the death of nine activists when Israeli commandos raided the ‘Gaza Freedom Flotilla’ that planned to breach the Gaza blockade.
